Oasis reunited with Dave Sardy at Abbey Road Studios in London, and the album was mixed in January and March 2008 at The Village Recorder in Los Angeles. Noel Gallagher wrote most of the songs. Liam Gallagher wrote three and Gem Archer and Andy Bell one each. In 2007 Noel said he wanted to throw everything at the next record, and Liam said it would be rocking, with no acoustic songs.
The first single, The Shock of the Lightning, came out on 29 September 2008 and the album followed on 6 October. It reached number one in the UK and number five on the Billboard 200. Reviews were positive for its harder and psychedelic rock sound. The Dig Out Your Soul Tour began in Seattle and ran for eighteen months. It remains the band's final studio album.
