Ostrich Churchyard was released on CD in 1992. Its first twelve tracks were recorded at the Hellfire Club, a Glasgow studio and rehearsal room, over a few days in May 1981. The rest come from a John Peel session of October 1980. The Hellfire songs include early versions of material that appeared on You Can't Hide Your Love Forever, and the Peel session holds Falling and Laughing, Love Sick, Poor Old Soul and Kirk's You Old Eccentric. Scott Plagenhoef of Pitchfork described it as what was to be the band's debut LP, not issued until 1992.
