The first single from ATLiens was released on 5 July 1996. André 3000 and Big Boi produced it, and it was the first song the duo made together for the album. It was inspired by a show at Howard University, and it uses an elevator as a metaphor for the ups and downs of fame. It was recorded at Doppler Studios, PatchWerk Recording Studios and Studio LaCoCo in Atlanta. It reached number 12 on the Hot 100, staying 20 weeks, and number one on the Hot Rap Tracks chart. That was Outkast's highest Hot 100 position until Ms. Jackson in 2000. The RIAA certified it gold on 13 September 1996 and platinum on 13 December 2024.

The Guardian's Alexis Petridis called the music unsettlingly odd, with scattered electronic bleeps and a chorus that sounds like a musical in which the whole cast is off their heads. He also noted that André punctures the celebratory mood by suggesting he is still broke. The Guardian placed it 11th among the duo's 20 greatest songs, and The Ringer ranked it seventh. The ONP 86 Mix of the song is the last track on the ATLiens tracklist.
