Farmer in the City opens Tilt and carries the subtitle Remembering Pasolini. Some of its lyrics are taken from Norman Macafee's English translation of Pier Paolo Pasolini's poem Uno dei tanti epiloghi, which Pasolini wrote in 1969 for his friend Ninetto Davoli. Walker's repeated chant of 21 may refer to Davoli's age when he was drafted into the Italian army.
Brian Gascoigne arranged and conducted the strings of the Sinfonia of London. Elizabeth Kenny plays chitarrone and Roy Carter oboe. A 4:37 edit of the song was issued on a promotional CD for Tilt, Fontana EEFR 2.
