All the songs are by Otis, who plays vocals, guitar, bass, drums, organ, piano, electric piano, vibraphone, percussion and analog drum machines, with Jack Kelso on saxophone and flute, Jeff Martinez on French horn, Carol Robbins on harp and trombones, trumpets and strings. Reviews include AllMusic's four and a half stars and Record Collector's Jason Draper, who called it a beautifully laidback, sunshine-funk record; Pitchfork ranked its title track 149th of the 200 best songs of the 1970s. The 2001 reissue adds "Strawberry Letter 23", "Sweet Thang", "Ice Cold Daydream" and "Freedom Flight".
