Before I Forget was the third single from Vol. 3. It borrows elements from an older song, Carve, which the band recorded before its debut album; the earliest version dates from 1996 with Anders Colsefni on vocals. Taylor said the song is about standing your ground and deciding to be a good person no matter what people say. He recalled that Rick Rubin was convinced the chorus would not work, and that he told him he was crazy. The song won the Grammy for Best Metal Performance in 2006, after six nominations for the band, and was featured in the game Guitar Hero III.

In the video, directed by Tony Petrossian, the members play the song unmasked and in casual black shirts, with their faces never fully shown and their masks placed beside them. When the song ends they stop and walk away. Kerrang and Louder Sound placed the song seventh and sixth in their 2020 lists of Slipknot's best, and PlayLouder's John Robb called it a classic Slipknot anthem.
