And the Horse They Rode In On was the fifth full-length album from Soul Asylum, released by A&M in 1990. Steve Jordan produced it. Most of it was recorded live on an A&M sound stage in Los Angeles and finished in Cannon Falls, Minnesota. The band chose to record what they felt like rather than worry about a consistent style, and they spent so long on it that they collected several outtakes.
Spinnin' was the first single, followed by Brand New Shine, Easy Street, Veil of Tears and Nice Guys (Don't Get Paid). Murphy wrote Gullible's Travels and shared the credit with Pirner on Easy Street. The vinyl, cassette and CD versions carried different but related cover art, and the band toured North America to support it. The Windsor Star called Gullible's Travels one of the best half-dozen rock tracks of the year.
