Misery was the lead single from Let Your Dim Light Shine. It went to US alternative radio in May 1995 and later became a commercial single. It reached number 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and number three in Canada.
Matt Mahurin directed the video, which intercuts the band onstage with a record plant pressing copies of the Misery CD single. Kevin Smith used the song in Clerks II. Weird Al Yankovic parodied it as Syndicated Inc. The song is also one of the band's most played, with 454 setlists on setlist.fm.
