Songs in A&E

A leaner record in which six short Harmony tracks hold the songs together.
Spiritualized, 2008

Released
26 May 2008
Label
Sanctuary (UK), Fontana (US)
Producer
Jason Pierce
Length
51:39

The album came five years after Amazing Grace. The six short "Harmony" tracks are named after the director Harmony Korine, and Pierce also recorded the soundtrack for Korine's 2008 film Mister Lonely. "Soul on Fire" was the single, released on 19 May 2008. The ending of "Goodnight Goodnight" nods to Daniel Johnston's "Funeral Home", and "Don't Hold Me Close" is a duet with Rachel Korine.

Pitchfork's Mike McGonigal said the six Harmony tracks work as glue holding the album together. The Guardian's Andy Capper pointed to "Sitting on Fire" and "Death Take Your Fiddle" among the new songs. Stereogum put the album second in its 2013 ranking of the catalog.
