Regal released the compilation in the UK on 28 September 1998, and Astralwerks followed in the US on 26 January 1999. It gathers Champion Versions (July 1997), The Patty Patty Sound (March 1998) and Los Amigos del Beta Bandidos (July 1998), and its cover art uses the icons from each EP. Marc Weingarten of the Los Angeles Times wrote in January 1999 that it should rank among the most venturesome of 1999, and described The House Song as starting as an a cappella vocal round, flowing into an incessant bass-drum beat and ending as a funky instrumental blowout.

It reached 35 in the UK, 4 on the UK independent chart and 38 in Scotland. After the film High Fidelity in March 2000, Astralwerks reported that sales had quadrupled within a month. Q placed it at number 74 among the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever and Pitchfork at number 23 among the Top 100 Albums of the 1990s. Pitchfork's Stuart Berman picked out mantric psych-folk built on a jew's-harp drone and bongo bounce in She's the One, and drum-circle workouts in B+A. Mason later said that at the time he thought this was the way all music should be made. Because Music reissued it for its 20th anniversary in 2018, and a deluxe vinyl edition came out for the 2025 reunion.
