The song comes from Transmissions from the Satellite Heart and was released as a single in the US in October 1993, with a UK release on 23 August 1994. It runs 3:40 and was produced by the band and Keith Cleversley. It reached 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, 9 on the US alternative songs chart, 25 in Australia and 94 in the UK. Its video was shown on Beavis and Butt-head nearly a year after the album came out, which made it the band's first charting radio hit.

The lyrics describe a woman who thinks of ghosts and puts Vaseline on toast, a man who goes to shows and uses magazines to blow his nose, and another woman who reminds the narrator of Cher and uses tangerines to make her hair orange. Coyne said the song came to him very quickly and that he thought it was sort of funny.
