"Bloodbuzz Ohio" was written by Berninger, Aaron Dessner and Padma Newsome, 4:36, produced by the band. It was available as a download from the band's site on March 24, 2010 and as a 7-inch on May 3, 2010, with "Sin-Eaters" on the other side. Berninger told Marketplace in 2012 that "bloodbuzz" is an invented word, like a wine buzz or a vodka buzz, the feeling of something in your blood, such as Ohio roots, rushing through your head, and that it is at heart a love song despite a recession-era backdrop of foreclosure signs in his Cincinnati neighborhood. Rob Sheffield wrote in Rolling Stone that it is about money, with Ohio mentioned only because it sounds like I owe.

An earlier version had a horn fanfare in the bridge; Dessner and Berninger wanted it cut while Katis and, to some extent, the drummer liked it, and Dessner called it a battle. The horns were removed, though the live version has a ba-ba-ba section echoing them, according to Far Out. The Quietus said in April 2010 that it nearly did not make the album.

The video shows Berninger in a suit walking New York streets with a drink, with D.A. Pennebaker as a bartender, directed by Hope E. Hall, Andreas Burgess and Carin Besser. The song reached number 16 in Flanders, was certified gold in Canada and New Zealand, number 31 in Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2010, and number 76 on Pitchfork's list of the 200 best songs of the 2010s. Oh Land, Julia Stone, SOAK and Goose have covered it, and setlist.fm counts 730 performances, the third most-played song.
