"Lady May" closes Purgatory, 3:04, and was released as a single on June 9, 2017. The writer credit was not explicitly confirmed on the pages read, but Childers is the sole writer in every source seen. Grammy.com reads it as a love letter to his wife, Senora May, with just voice and guitar, about devotion, humility and vulnerability, with a dream of a modest aging camper rather than a mansion, and says it finds him disarming his angst and signaling a new beginning. No words of his own about the song were found.

It is certified platinum by the RIAA, with almost 50 million Spotify streams at the gold certification. Setlist.fm counts 296 performances, his third most played song; it was in his Mountain Stage set and at the Exit/In in Nashville on November 30, 2018. It was used in Yellowstone in season three. Maggie Antone covered it first on TikTok and then on her 2022 album Interpretations, and it is her most performed cover, with 11 plays. Our upload's exact version and date are unverified.
