The first Wilfilms LP carries the sleeve note "Music track from film Crashes in Love" and the subtitle "A Tragedy Of How An African Princess Rejects The Love That Money Buys". Onyeabor is credited as composer, arranger, producer, film producer and film director. Goddy Oku is named as recording engineer, Nelly Uchendu and Theresa Uzumezu sing backing vocals and Willy N'For plays bass. Pitchfork's Andy Beta wrote that there seemed to be no trace of the film, and that the back of the sleeve carries a disclaimer that it is neither all nor only the sounds on the album that are tracked in film.
Beta heard a full band behind Onyeabor, with drums, hand percussion, horns, guitar, bass and female singers who chant "One day you'll be lying dead" on Something You'll Never Forget. He compared its sound to BLO, the Funkees and Ofege. Jungle Gods, which closes the record, has Onyeabor speaking in echoplexed tongues.
A second version appeared in 1982. Discogs notes describe it as a remake with electronically generated beats, extra vocals and guitar parts, and without Jungle Gods. Its four tracks run shorter than the originals, and Luaka Bop's later box set includes both versions.
