Written for Jerry Maguire and dropped from the film, it became the song the Magnolia cast sing to each other.

Mann wrote Wise Up for Cameron Crowe's 1996 film Jerry Maguire. Crowe felt her recording did not fit, though he used her original piano demo in a scene where Jerry moves through an airport. He said her final version was larger, more lush and more of a personal epic, so big it no longer suited the scene it was meant for, and that being unable to use it was heartbreaking. The song was included on the Jerry Maguire soundtrack album.
Anderson then built a sequence in Magnolia in which the cast sing along to Wise Up, and it appears on that film's soundtrack too.
