Ali and Toumani was recorded in London in 2005, before concert dates in Europe, and came out in 2010. It includes older songs from Touré's repertoire: Sabu Yerkoy celebrates Mali's independence and dates from the 1960s, and Sina Mory is the first song he ever heard on guitar, in 1956. Diabaté said the album was going to be a summing up of Ali's past albums and that it was the very last he made. Cachaíto López plays bass, Vieux Farka Touré congas, and Tim Keiper percussion.

Joe Tangari wrote in Pitchfork in 2010 that the sessions were recorded with uncompromising intimacy, down to the creak of chairs, and called the album uncommonly beautiful. The opener Ruby is named for Nick Gold's young daughter, and Fantasy is an on-the-spot improvisation. It was Cachaíto López's final recording. Kitty Empire reviewed it in the Observer in February 2010.
