Recorded between August and October 1975 and released in 1976, her first album for Warner Bros. and the first after she moved to California and decided to become a monastic. It uses ensembles of varying size, from a solo harp piece to a large orchestra of strings, brass and woodwinds on the first and last tracks, with Charlie Haden and Ben Riley on several tracks and Carlos Santana on percussion on two. The closing track is an excerpt from Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring.
AllMusic's Thom Jurek said it was far ahead of its time in 1976, and the Penguin Guide gave it four stars. The Guardian's Jennifer Lucy Allan found the album short and less coherent than her others but praised Spiritual Eternal and its huge Wurlitzer solo wrapped in strings.
