Poison
The 1989 single that put Cooper back in the top ten, built on a riff first used for a John Waite song.

Cooper wrote it with the producer Desmond Child and the guitarist John McCurry, and it came out as a single in July 1989 from Trash. It reached 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and 2 in Britain, and Billboard ranked it 91st among the songs of 1989. McCurry wrote the main riff two years earlier, when he used it on John Waite's Encircled. Two videos exist: in one Cooper is chained to a torture rack while a ghostly woman looms over him, and the original had to be censored for daytime showing.
Ultimate Classic Rock ranked it the seventh best Alice Cooper song, writing that it sounds like a typical 1980s pop-metal number at times but that Cooper's intensity takes it further. It appears in 2,192 of the 2,253 logged setlists from 1996 to 2026 that list songs. It has been used in Tango & Cash, The Jackal, End of Days and a 2011 Volkswagen Passat advertisement.
