Kish Kash was released on 20 October 2003 and reached number 17 in the UK. It was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2004 and won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2005, the first time the award was given. Buxton said they made it in a sober state of mind. He said they went back to school with the new studio, and Ratcliffe said they were less sure what they were doing and enjoyed it more. They had planned to call it Rhapsody, but changed it to Kish Kash, a friend's phrase for money.

Lisa Kekaula of the Bellrays sings Good Luck, which has a 16-piece orchestra. Meshell Ndegeocello sings Right Here's the Spot and Feels Like Home, Siouxsie Sioux is on Cish Cash, and Joe Benjamin, a 70-year-old Bermudan man who lived in Brixton, appears on Benjilude. Singles were Lucky Star, Good Luck and Plug It In.

Metacritic gives it 85 out of 100. Pitchfork's Scott Plagenhoef said it produced both some of the most propulsive, ferocious music of the year and some of the most poignant, and that it was the most consistently entrancing record of their career. NME's Stephen Dalton called it a naggingly problematic record. Pitchfork later ranked Kish Kash at number 66 and Rooty at number 65 on its list of the top 100 albums of 2000 to 2004.
