Thank Your Lucky Stars came out less than two months after Depression Cherry and was announced on the band's Twitter account eight days earlier. It was recorded at the same time at Studio in the Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana, and mixed at Sonic Ranch, though its songs were written after those of the first record. The band called it not a companion to Depression Cherry, or a surprise, or b-sides, although the words Thank Your Lucky Stars were etched into the run-out of the Depression Cherry vinyl. The cover is a photograph of Legrand's mother taken in the late 1950s.

It debuted at 39 on the Billboard 200 and fourth on Top Rock Albums, with 10,000 copies in its first week. Jayson Greene of Pitchfork heard a darker edge than on Depression Cherry and suggested that another album so soon was too much of a good thing. Meagan Fredette of Rolling Stone called Elegy to the Void the album's crown jewel.
