Björk wrote it and produced it with Arca, The Haxan Cloak mixed it, and Mandy Parnell mastered it. At 10:08 it is her longest studio track. It was recorded at Baltic Place and Black Saloon in London and at Sundlaugin in Mosfellsbær, and finished in spring 2014. Its vocal was re-recorded at Sundlaugin on a Telefunken 251.
It is about her separation from Matthew Barney. She began writing about three months after it, in Japan, and described it as being about forgiveness, the only way to move forward emotionally.
Video and live
Andrew Thomas Huang's video was commissioned by MoMA and filmed over three days in July 2014 at Fagradalsfjall, with a cape by Iris van Herpen. It premiered at MoMA in March 2015 and reached YouTube in June. She performed it on the 2015 Vulnicura tour, including a residency at New York's City Center in March and April, and again in Björk Digital from 2016 to 2020 and Björk Orkestral from 2021 to 2023. Setlist.fm logs it in 30 of her sets.
