Candela is a classic son by Faustino Oramas, known as El Guayabero. The lyrics are full of metaphors and double meanings and carry sexual innuendo in the Santiago tradition. Ibrahim Ferrer sings it and improvises vocal lines throughout, and the whole ensemble plays an extended descarga. The Guardian listed it with Chan Chan and Dos gardenias among the songs of the group that wound around restaurant tables worldwide.
It runs 5:27 on the album and 7:00 at Carnegie Hall on 1 July 1998, and it is one of the songs in the Wenders film.
