Dos gardenias is the best known composition of the pianist and arranger Isolina Carrillo. The singer and bandleader Antonio Machín had a huge success with it in Spain in the 1940s. Ibrahim Ferrer learned it in the 1950s at the Club Avilar while he was playing with Beny Moré. It went onto the album after Ry Cooder heard Ferrer and Rubén González improvising the melody before a recording session.
At Carnegie Hall in 1998 it ran 4:23, and it is one of the songs in the Wenders film.
