Veinte años was written by María Teresa Vera, and Omara Portuondo sings it with Compay Segundo on second voice. She was the only woman on the album. Portuondo told the Guardian that she was about to leave on a tour of Vietnam when Juan de Marcos called to say they needed a female voice. She cancelled everything to take part. A calm came over the studio while she dictated the tempo and arrangement, and the song was recorded in about two hours.

At Carnegie Hall on 1 July 1998 it ran 4:06, and it is one of the songs in the Wenders film.
