Leary recalled that one night in Georgia, not wanting to wake the others, he put a microphone on a transistor radio, caught a talk show and recorded it onto the eight-track. He then recorded a bass line and guitar, and Coffey played drums the next morning. The track is built on that radio call-in show.

Leary said that while playing the guitar part he was thinking of the film The Spy Who Loved Me, and called the whole approach "a Dada approach to everything." The song reached number 44 in John Peel's 1987 Festive Fifty. Hay is a backwards, double-speed mix of the same recording. The band has regularly played the song live.
