Sweat Loaf takes the verse riff of Black Sabbath's Sweet Leaf and bends it out of shape. Its intro includes shouts of "Satan! Satan! Satan!" Leary said: "we bought a Prophet 2000 keyboard," and that Haynes "came up with this wonderful orchestral sound." The vocals went through a pitch shifter. "We could afford toys," Leary said, "and every time we got a toy, we'd use it." He thinks it was recorded at the band's Texas home studio. It is one of two songs on the album that use Haynes's Gibbytronix vocal effects.
Orbital sampled the opening for their track Satan, Kid Rock sampled the song on Pancake Breakfast, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Deep Kick refers to it. The band has regularly played it live.
