Beautiful as the Moon - Terrible as an Army with Banners

Chris Cutler's first lyrics, and the seed of Art Bears.
Dagmar Krause, from In Praise of Learning (1975)

In Praise of Learning

The words are the first Chris Cutler ever wrote, and the song was the first product of the partnership with Fred Frith that grew into Art Bears with Krause. The title comes from a line in the Song of Solomon. It became the longest-lasting building block of the music Henry Cow used in later live shows. John Kelman has written that it and Living in the Heart of the Beast made the group's politics literal in lyrics sung by the newcomer Krause. Ian MacDonald of the NME thought it started well and was let down later by pretentious lyrics.
