Stewart Mason of AllMusic singled it out, with Moeris, Dancing, as a standout of Hopes and Fears. He wrote that as the longest track it came closest to conventional rock music. Asked in 2004 if it was an homage to the Who, Chris Cutler said it would be hard to deny the connection, that it was obviously a reference, and that in his youth he was directly influenced by the Who and by Keith Moon. Georgie Born has said that she wrote the bass lines for it and for Joan, yet was not credited on the album.
