Perfect Strangers was the first UK single from the reunion album. It has no guitar solo, yet Blackmore has called it his favourite Deep Purple song. The lyrics were inspired by Michael Moorcock's Elric books. As a single it spent three weeks on the UK chart from 26 January to 9 February 1985 and peaked at number 48, well below the album's number five.
Dream Theater recorded it on their A Change of Seasons EP. Dimmu Borgir, Jorn Lande, Timo Kotipelto and Jani Liimatainen, Yob and Vixen have also covered it.
