This Is Our Music

The first song on This Is Our Music was also its single, released in September 1990 on Rough Trade with Here She Comes Now, by Reed, Cale and Morrison, as the 12-inch B-side. Sergio Huidor directed a promotional video. Wareham counted it, with Listen, the Snow Is Falling and Hearing Voices, as vintage Galaxie 500. Mark Richardson of Pitchfork found it funny. Karen Schoemer, who named it her favorite in the oral history Temperature's Rising, heard a liquid rhythm and a song about apathy and inertia, of being alienated from the action. Pitchfork ranked it number 175 on its list of the 250 best songs of the 1990s.

A live version of 5:01 is on Copenhagen, and a video mix is on Uncollected Noise New York.
