Seventh Tree

Alison and Will wrote it in 2007 in a studio near Somerset, and Flood co-produced. The lyrics came from Alison's visit to a hospital emergency department on a Saturday afternoon, where the doctors pumped her up with loads of painkillers and the scene felt a bit surreal. In 2023 she said it was so autobiographical, not fantastical at all.

It was released on 11 February 2008, debuted at number 18 in the UK and reached number 10 the next week, spending nine weeks on the chart. In the United States it topped the Hot Dance Singles Sales chart. Pitchfork put it at number 73 on its list of the 100 best tracks of 2008. In its review of the album, Pitchfork said the song hints at a pill overdose. musicOMH called it a beautifully paced ballad, and Digital Spy called it lush, folky and organic.

Dougal Wilson directed the video, which sets the song in a forest. Alison wears a white dress among leaf-men, and it ends with Gregory playing guitar and making tea beside an orange tent. It premiered on Channel 4 on 12 January 2008.
