Gong's second album was recorded at the Chateau d'Herouville near Paris, produced by Pierre Lattes and engineered by Gilles Salle, with Jean Karakos as executive producer. Allen's liner notes credit Karakos as Byg Jean Kastro Kornflakes. It came out in October 1971 on BYG Actuel with Allen, Smyth, Malherbe, Tritsch and the drummer Pip Pyle, plus Eddy Louiss on Hammond organ and piano and Konstantin Simonovitch on phased piano. The first and last tracks on each side of the original LP are short collages of sound effects, and the opener is a 26-second Radio Gnome that was titled Radio Gnome Prediction on Virgin editions.

Virgin reissued it in Britain in 1974 at 59 pence, the price of a single, a scheme it had used the year before for The Faust Tapes by Faust. Discounted albums of that kind did not qualify for the album chart. Later editions came from Charly, Snapper and Get Back Records.
