Hen's Teeth is his eighth full-length album. Beam produced it, and Dave Way recorded it. Pitchfork's Stephen Thomas Erlewine called it in every respect a companion to Light Verse, made at the same time by the same band of David Garza, Sebastian Steinberg and Tyler Chester with a rotating cast of drummers. Garza and Steinberg both played on Fiona Apple's Fetch the Bolt Cutters.
The folk group I'm With Her sing on Robin's Egg and Wait Up, with Aoife O'Donovan, Sara Watkins and Sarah Jarosz as vocalists. Beam's daughter Arden sings harmony on Grace Notes and Singing Saw. Paul Cartwright wrote the string arrangements. In the United States it reached number 44 on the Top Album Sales chart.
