Light Verse was announced on 7 February 2024 together with its lead single, You Never Know. Beam produced it with a band that included Tyler Chester on keyboards, Sebastian Steinberg on bass, David Garza on guitar, Paul Cartwright on violin and the percussionists Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow and Kyle Crane. Dave Way engineered and mixed it, and Fiona Apple sings on All in Good Time. Beam says the title came from a process that "felt like coming out of a tunnel into a kind of light."
Pitchfork's Stephen M. Deusner described an album aware of time passing, with a dry sense of humor, and quoted the line "Time likes pulling my teeth" from Cutting It Close. He found Sweet Talk bouncy in a 1960s bubblegum psych way. All in Good Time later earned a Grammy nomination for Best American Roots Song. Beam toured North America in summer 2024 and Europe that autumn, and The Guardian reviewed his Edinburgh show, staged with the Manual Cinema puppeteers, as a singular gig.
