Acid

The second track on Wicked City, built from a bland piano demo that Taylor Skye reshaped into a swooning song over a buoyant bassline.

"Acid" is track two of the Wicked City EP and runs 3:50. It was released as a single in early February 2020 (Wikipedia gives February 4 and MusicBrainz February 5) alongside the news that the duo had signed to Warp. Ellery wrote the song and Skye produced it, a credit inferred from his production of the whole EP.

NME reported the story of its making: Ellery sent Skye what she called a very bland piano demo, and he reshaped it through production, adding meanings to the lyrics that she had not planned. One review of the EP described Ellery's swooning vocal over a dramatic, buoyant dubstep bassline, and PopMatters heard the art-pop of the previous EP with more polished production. Setlist.fm counts 66 performances, tied with "What's It All About?" for eighth place among their most played songs, though it was not in the Capitol Hill Block Party set of July 20, 2025.

We found no studio, meaning of the lyrics from the artists, covers or samples, and the version of our upload was not verified, though it appears to be the studio track.
