O Compositor e o Cantor is Valle's second album and the one that contains Samba de Verão. According to Far Out's Josh Tautz and Felipe Mejia, he did most of the writing at night, which shows in the gentleness and intimacy of the music. The strings were co-arranged by Eumir Deodato. The record drifts on songs like Preciso Aprender a Ser Só and swings hard on Seu Encanto, which features Wilson das Neves and Rubens Bassini of The Ipanemas.
