Mandolin Man
The long track near the end of Dreaming with Alice, which turns from a jazzy folk riff into a stoned rock groove.
Mark Fry, from Dreaming with Alice (1972)
"Mandolin Man" is the fourteenth item on the Bandcamp reissue's list, 8:19 (8:18 at Head Heritage), and the album's songs are credited to Fry. Head Heritage describes it opening on a jazzy riff compared to Bert Jansch and shifting after about three minutes to a rock feel with real drums, wah-wah electric guitar and spaced-out harmonies; it starts to fade around 6:25, then cuts to a slower stoned groove with a wordless vocal refrain and flute. It is on the compilation Love, Peace and Poetry: British Psychedelic Music (Normal Records, 2001). No account from Fry of its subject, no named mandolinist, no covers and no chart history were found, and it has been played once in the 27 performances setlist.fm lists.
