"Mary" is track twelve of Flaming Red, 5:16, written by Griffin, with backing vocals on the album from Emmylou Harris and Buddy and Julie Miller. The upload we hold is titled "Mary | Flaming Red", which confirms the studio version. A live version on A Kiss in Time runs 6:22, again with Harris and the Millers singing along, and at a Songwriter's Tour show on October 26, 2003 Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin and Dar Williams joined her for it, according to a search listing of that setlist. A review called it a standout, mixing personal sadness with religious imagery.
Setlist.fm counts 55 performances, the most of her songs we hold. Wikipedia and uDiscover say the Dixie Chicks covered it, but no release, year or live source was found, so that claim is not repeated here as fact; the songs of hers they are known to have recorded are "Truth No. 2" and "Top of the World".
