Assikel was recorded live to analogue tape on a late-1960s 16-track machine over ten days in October 2025 at Tone Boutique in Haarlem. Jasper Geluk of Altın Gün recorded and mixed it and shares the production credit with the band, and Frank Merritt mastered and cut the lacquer at The Carvery. The songs are credited to Tamikrest, with Mahmoud Ag Ahmouden co-writing Aiytma. Ibrahim Ag Alhabib of Tinariwen guests on Eillal, and Adounia pays tribute to the late Mohammed Ag Itlale, known as Japonais, of Tinariwen.
Released on Glitterbeat on 15 May 2026, it reached number one on the World Music Charts Europe. Ben Forrest gave it four stars in Far Out, calling it a stark, beautiful exploration of the Tuareg heritage, and picked Imanin as a highlight among its heavy guitar freakouts and Adagh Oyantid as the standout.
