The opening track of What Color Is Love, nearly nine minutes of guitar, strings and horns.
Terry Callier, from What Color Is Love (1972)

Play on hypersongs

Callier wrote it alone. It opens What Color Is Love at 8:58, a length that varies slightly across releases, and was recorded at RCA in Chicago with Stepney arranging and producing; the recording date was not found. Albumism hears it move from a delicate paean to an unnamed beauty to an urgent, plaintive wail, comparing it to Gil Scott-Heron, with screeching horns and subtle strings that peak in the final three minutes. FACT writes that it reflects on the limits of love, thoughts far beyond the limitations of earthly romance. No words from Callier on the song were found.

A live version of 11:23 is on Alive (2001), recorded in London, and the studio take is on compilations including Best of Terry Callier (1992), Life Lessons (2006) and Collected (2007). No chart, video, covers or samples were found, and which version our upload is is not known.
