The first single from Surrender, released in Japan on 26 May 1999 and in the UK on 31 May. It peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart in June 1999 and stayed on the chart for 10 weeks. It also reached the top 10 in Canada, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway and Spain. It was inspired by nights out at the Sheffield club Gatecrasher, and it is more house-influenced than big beat. It was recorded at Orinoco Studios, edited at Berwick Street Studios and mastered at The Exchange.
The credited sample is Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Three's The Roof Is on Fire, but the actual sample is taken from Armand van Helden's 1992 track I Can't Wait. In the video, directed by Dom and Nic, a young woman sees the people around her, including the clubbers at the Ministry of Sound, as skeletons, and the duo make a brief cameo stepping out of a taxi. NME placed the song at number 50 on its 2011 list of the 150 best tracks of the past 15 years. It was played in 305 of the 357 concerts that have a logged setlist, more than any other song.
