Outubro was recorded mostly at Studio Sonoviso in Rio, where Toninho Barbosa engineered most tracks. Pãpasong was cut at Studio Havay and Maracanã at Studio Transamerica. Danny Kopelson and Wally Buck mixed it, and George Horn mastered it, at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Bertrami and Joel B. Leibovitz produced. The band covers Chick Corea and Neville Potter's 500 Miles High and the title song by Milton Nascimento, and Aleuda, Doto and Gordinho appear as guests.
Bertrami wrote Dear Limmertz and Maracanã, Malheiros wrote Pãpasong and Um Amigo, and Conti wrote Pantanal. Far Out reissued the album in June 2016, and Alexander De Lacey of Sounds and Colours called it "an important and essential release that is definitely worth revisiting."
