Lost Cause

Beck wrote it and Godrich produced it. It was issued as a promo-only single in the United Kingdom, Germany and Japan and reached number 36 on Alternative Airplay on 22 March 2003. Garth Jennings directed two videos: in one an effigy of Beck falls from the sky, and in the other the band plays with speed effects. MTV.com called the song sparse and melancholy. Setlist.fm logs 549 plays, the fifth most of any Beck song. Beck played it live before the album was recorded. The original Sea Change cover art was used as the effigy in the video.
