Sissyneck was released as a single on 17 June 1997. Greg Leisz plays pedal steel, and sample notes in the US CD credits list elements of Dick Hyman's The Moog and Me. The Guardian ranked it fifth among Beck's songs, describing a character with a stolen wife and a rhinestone life, country guitar licks and a rodeo-bar chorus over a hip-hop breakbeat.
An unreleased song from the deluxe edition, Gold Chains, was called by Pitchfork a decidedly less funky version of Sissyneck with hip-hop lyrics in place of country tropes. An advance cassette of the album, from before Sissyneck was reworked to remove uncleared samples, survives on the Internet Archive.
