Damaged I

The closing track, Rollins's first writing credit with the band.
Black Flag, from Damaged (1981)

Released
1981
Album
Damaged

Damaged I closes the album. It was Rollins's first writing credit with Black Flag. In Get in the Van he says he improvised new lyrics each time the band played it live. For the album the first of two takes was used. An earlier version with Dez Cadena on vocals came out as a single paired with Louie Louie.

Pitchfork's Matthew Schnipper opens his review with the track: Rollins introduces himself and ends by shouting that it is Damaged, his damage. He writes that on songs where Rollins is hurting, Damaged I especially, he can be hard to listen to but is always impossible to ignore. Vice called it untethered lunacy.
