TV Party

A satire of staying in, drinking and watching television, recorded three times.
Black Flag, from Damaged (1981)

Released
1981
Album
Damaged

The song is driven by Chuck Dukowski's bass line, with Rollins singing lead and the rest of the band bellowing backing vocals. Rollins described it as satire about people who stay inside their house and live in a TV kind of world. Ginn called it a satire of watching TV and partying at home, a sickness he said was common in Los Angeles. Ginn also said that after Rollins joined, the band could no longer do songs with a sense of humor.

It was recorded three times. The first version is on Damaged. The second was made in March 1982 for the TV Party EP, with new drummer Emil Johnson, a slower tempo and hand claps, and the third was cut for Alex Cox's film Repo Man and its soundtrack. Each version names different television shows from its time. The EP came out on SST in July 1982, with a video directed by the photographer Glen E. Friedman showing the band and friends drinking beer and calling out their favorite shows. Trouser Press called it a culture classic, and Billboard listed the song as recommended in 1982.
