Good Beat opens the LP of World Clique and was released as a single. It reached number one on Billboard's club play chart. Christgau, reviewing the album for the Village Voice, named it the only choice cut.
Slant's Ed Gonzalez, in his 2004 review, called it an optimist and pessimist anthem and said that, despite a line like I just wanna hear a good beat, Kier is not being passive: she is championing a rhythm that unites instead of divides. A Jonny L remix of the song and an a cappella cut, Goodbeatapella, appear on the 1996 compilation Sampladelic Relics and Dancefloor Oddities.
