Recorded in the Copa Room of the Sands Hotel with Count Basie and his orchestra, conducted by Quincy Jones, the album includes live versions of Fly Me to the Moon, I've Got You Under My Skin and It Was a Very Good Year. The 1998 reissue includes The Tea Break, an 11:48 monologue, and the track list here is that of the reissue. The album reached number nine in the US and number seven in the UK. AllMusic gave it 4.5 stars and Mojo gave it four. Sinatra left the Sands the following year after a fight with its new owner Howard Hughes.

It was the first live album Sinatra released commercially. Three of the pieces on the 1998 reissue are instrumentals: One O'Clock Jump, All of Me and Makin' Whoopee, and Luck Be a Lady appears only as a bonus track on the 1998 CD and the 2003 DVD-Audio. In The Tea Break he jokes about Dean Martin's drinking and about Sammy Davis Jr.'s autobiography Yes I Can, and he denies that he has turned fifty. The album was remastered for DVD-Audio in 2003, and an alternate version of the same show came out in 2006 in the box set Sinatra: Vegas. The RIAA certified it gold.
