His tenth studio album and fourth for Capitol, it set out to be livelier and jazzier than In the Wee Small Hours, with Nelson Riddle again arranging. Memories of You was recorded in the sessions but left off because of its tempo. It stayed unreleased until 1973 and appeared on The Capitol Years in 1990. The original cover showed Sinatra with his back to a young couple, and in 1957 it was replaced with an image of him facing them.

It was the first album to top the UK chart, where it was first published on 22 July 1956, and it reached number two on the Billboard 200. Both the BPI and the RIAA certified it Gold. AllMusic, the Encyclopedia of Popular Music and Uncut gave it five stars, and it entered the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000. Rolling Stone ranked it 306 in 2003 and 308 in 2012. In 2025 Uncut put it at number 18 among the 500 greatest albums of the 1950s, with Nick Hasted arguing that I've Got You Under My Skin is as rock'n'roll as anything released that year.
