Young was living at Zuma beach, and the band recorded in Briggs's house on Point Dume, where Bob Dylan dropped by. Young summed it up by saying the Horse was reborn. A power failure during Cortez the Killer cost the song a verse. Robert Christgau gave it an A-minus, and it went to 25 in the US and 4 in the Netherlands. Crosby, Stills and Nash appear on the closing Through My Sails.
